Unilever is committed to protecting your personal privacy. This privacy policy outlines the type of information we collect, and how we use and protect it. This policy tells you what to do if you do not want your Personal Information collected when you visit our sites, and how you can change information you have already provided to us.

Ponds privacy policy

This privacy policy applies to m.Ponds.co.za (the 'Ponds website'). For simplicity, references in this privacy policy to the 'Sites' shall include the Ponds website, the Ponds Facebook page and any Ponds applications, as applicable.

The Ponds website and the Ponds applications are operated by or on behalf of Unilever South Africa (Pty) Ltd and any other members of the Unilever group of companies ('Unilever'). While Unilever is responsible for Ponds applications and for content on the Ponds Facebook page, www.facebook.com is operated and controlled by Facebook, Inc. This privacy policy does not apply to banners, sweepstakes and other advertisements or promotions we may sponsor or participate in on websites owned by third parties.

Your consent to this privacy policy

By using the Sites, you say that you agree with the terms of this privacy policy. If you do not agree with any term in this policy, please do not use the Sites. The site you are visiting is established in respect of products produced and labelled in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of South Africa and intended for sale in the those countries only. Unilever sites operated from different countries may promote products which are not for sale in the Republic of South Africa and they may have modified privacy policies to conform to local laws or customs.

Protection of children

Unilever is committed to protecting the privacy of children. The Sites are designed and intended for use by people aged 16 and over. If you are over the age of 16 but under 18, you should review the terms of this privacy policy with your parent or guardian to make sure you both understand them. Access to certain parts of the Sites and/or eligibility to receive prizes, samples or other rewards may be limited to users aged 18 or over. Although we are not responsible for determining the age of our users, we may carry out verification checks. If we learn that we have collected information from an individual under the age of 16, then we will delete that information as soon as possible and may disable that individual’s access to the applicable website.

Collection of private information

As used in this privacy policy, 'Personal Information' means information from which you can be personally identified. Typically, this includes your name, street address, screen name and email address, telephone number and credit card information, but may also include other information such as shopping habits, preferences and lifestyle details such as hobbies and interests. If you “Like” the Ponds Facebook page or access or use a Ponds application, your Personal Information may also include your Facebook name, profile picture, gender, networks and any other information you choose to share with everyone or explicitly with Unilever.

Throughout the Sites, you may be asked to provide Personal Information so that you can register for prize draws or competitions, receive information or mailings, use Ponds applications, buy a product or service from us, fill out a survey, make a comment or enquiry, or for a variety of other reasons. Please be assured that Unilever will not collect any Personal Information unless you provide this information voluntarily. When you provide us with Personal Information, you are authorising us to use that information in accordance with the terms of this privacy policy, which includes your right to limit our use of the Personal Information (see 'Who to Contact' below).

Other information we may collect

Cookies

You may have heard of 'cookies,' which are files or pieces of information that may be stored in your computer's hard drive when you visit a website. Unilever uses cookies to make our Sites easier to use and to better tailor the Sites and our products to your interests and needs. Cookies may also be used to help speed up your future activities on our Sites. For example, a site can recognise that you have provided Personal Information and refrain from requesting the same information a second time.

We may also use cookies to collect information about your computer, such as your IP address (a number assigned to your computer whenever you surf the Internet) or the type of Internet browser or operating system you are using, and link this to your Personal Information. This is to ensure that our Sites present the best web experience for you, and are effective information resources.

Pixel Tags

Some of the pages you visit may also collect information through the use of pixel tags (also called clear gifs) that may be shared with third parties which directly support Unilever's promotional activities and website development. For example, website usage information about visitors to our Sites may be shared with our third party advertising agency to better target Internet banner advertisements on Unilever websites. The information collected through the use of these pixel tags is not, however, personally identifiable, although it could be linked to your Personal Information.

How we use your information

Your Personal Information is used by Unilever for the express purpose for which it was collected (e.g. to respond to your enquiry, enter you in a competition or to send you a sample). It may also be used by us to improve our products and websites, and to contact you regarding other products and services which may be of interest to you (including those we may offer jointly with other companies). We may also share it with or pass it to other companies in the Unilever Group and third parties which directly support Unilever’s promotional activities and website development. At any time, however, you may opt out of such future contact (see 'Who to Contact' below).

We may supplement the information that you provided us with other information we hold or that we receive from third parties. We do this for marketing purposes to provide more targeted products and services to meet your needs.

Finally, please note that we will release your Personal Information if required to do so by law, or by search warrant, subpoena or court order.

Data Processors

At times, we may retain third parties to process and analyse data we collect on our Sites, including Personal Information, to give us insights which we will use to improve our products and our Sites, and track the effectiveness of a particular promotion or campaign (‘Data Processors’). In addition, if you order a product or service from us, we may share Personal Information with suppliers and other third parties to allow delivery of such products or services. These suppliers and other third parties are not authorised by us to use your Personal Information in any other way.

Web Analytics Tools

The Sites may use web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and/or Unica, to track your interactions with a site and to store information, such as what time you visited it, whether you’ve visited it before and what site referred you to it. Site measurement statistics may be used to personalise your website experience, as well as to evaluate - anonymously and in the aggregate - statistics on website activity. We use this information to measure the effectiveness of our web presence and to compile statistical reports.

Where we use Google Analytics, we may share this information with Google to help Google improve its products and services. Neither we nor Google shall use (or authorise any third party to use) this tool to track or collect Personal Information about you or associate your Personal Information with Google Analytics data. Where we transfer and process your information

The host servers for the Sites are located in the European Economic Area and/or in Republic of South Africa. Unilever and its third party Data Processors will transfer and process your Personal Information within the European Economic Area in accordance with applicable data protection laws and regulations. South Africa currently has no law explicitly protecting Personal Information, but the hosting organisation is required to implement measures to protect your Personal Information and not to process it except in accordance with Unilever’s instructions. Any future hosting organisation used in relation to this site will be similarly bound.

Although the Sites are designed for residents of the Republic of South Africa only, users may be based in other countries. Please do not include Personal Information in any comments you post on or through the Sites, as you may be sharing that information with users based outside the Republic of South Africa in a jurisdiction that does not provide the same level of data protection. Unilever and its third party Data Processors shall not be responsible for Personal Information disclosed in this way.

Security of information

We take reasonable precautions to keep your Personal Information secure and require third party Data Processors to do likewise. Access to your Personal Information is restricted to prevent unauthorised access, modification or misuse and is only permitted among our employees on a need-to-know basis.

Changes in our policy

Unilever reserves the right to change or remove this privacy policy at our discretion. If we decide to change our privacy policy we will post those changes here. We encourage you to visit this area frequently to stay informed.
